About this role
Heritage Health seeks a seasoned, mission-driven Chief Medical Officer (CMO) as the senior clinical executive and principal physician leader. The CMO provides enterprise-wide leadership for clinical strategy, quality, patient safety, and care delivery across all service lines. Advances the mission to improve access and outcomes for communities served.
The CMO leads at the system level, balancing clinical excellence, regulatory accountability, operational performance, and physician engagement. Shapes the organization’s clinical model, strengthens governance and quality infrastructure. Ensures care delivery aligns with value-based care principles, compliance, and sustainability.
In dyad partnership with the COO, co-leads service line performance, organizational culture, and patient experience. Provides direct oversight and mentorship to Clinical Directors across service lines. Establishes clinical standards, drives accountability, and ensures consistency in quality, safety, and patient-centered care.
Serves as trusted advisor to executive leadership and the Board, bringing physician voice to strategic decisions. Fosters culture of collaboration, transparency, and continuous improvement. Acts as visible external clinical leader with community partners, health systems, payers, and stakeholders.
This high-impact role offers autonomy and support in a mission-driven organization. Up to 20% clinical practice based on needs. Leads with provider well-being and sustainable care models.
Requirements
- Seasoned physician leader with demonstrated ability to lead at the system level
- Expertise in clinical strategy, quality improvement, patient safety, and value-based care
- Experience balancing regulatory compliance, operational performance, and physician engagement
- Proven track record in shaping clinical models and governance structures
- Ability to foster collaboration in dyad leadership partnerships
- Knowledge of care delivery aligned with compliance and sustainability goals
- Skills in building aligned clinical leadership and provider engagement
Responsibilities
- Provide enterprise-wide leadership for clinical strategy, quality, patient safety, and care delivery across all service lines

- Shape the organization’s clinical model and strengthen governance and quality infrastructure
- Co-lead service line performance, organizational culture, and patient experience in dyad partnership with COO
- Oversee and mentor Clinical Directors across service lines to establish clinical standards
- Drive accountability and ensure consistency in quality, safety, and patient-centered care
- Serve as trusted advisor to executive leadership and the Board on strategic decision-making
- Represent Heritage Health externally with community partners, health systems, payers, and stakeholders
