About this role

The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) is the senior physician executive responsible for promoting excellence in clinical care, research, and education at the hospital. In collaboration with the regional CMO and other leaders, the hospital CMO creates the vision and strategic plan for clinical activities. The CMO serves as an advocate promoting high standards for performance aligned with Corewell Health's mission, vision, and values.

The CMO works in a dyad relationship with the hospital Chief Nursing Officer as the highest hospital physician clinical authority. Leads physician and Advanced Practice Provider engagement, alignment, operational improvements, and best practice models for care delivery. Collaborates on provider wellbeing, data, quality outcomes, credentialing, privileging, and professionalism consistent with Corewell Health values.

Trenton Hospital is a Magnet-designated facility providing comprehensive medical and surgical care, recipient of the Truven Health Advantage Award for Health and Clinical Outcomes. It features a Level II trauma center with nationally recognized heart, vascular, pulmonary, orthopedics, neurosurgery, and women’s health specialties. Home to nine university-affiliated residency programs.

Farmington Hills Hospital is recognized by U.S. News and World Report as high-performing for multiple procedures and conditions, Magnet-designated for nursing excellence. Grown to a Level II trauma center serving the community since 1965. Serves as base teaching hospital for Michigan State University.

Focus on quality and patient safety includes accountability for highest standards, monitoring clinical care improvements, partnering on annual quality plans with benchmarked indicators, and ensuring OPPE and FPPE evaluations for medical staff with follow-up actions.

Requirements

  • Board-certified physician with active medical license
  • Experience as senior physician executive in hospital setting
  • Proven leadership in clinical quality and patient safety initiatives
  • Knowledge of OPPE and FPPE evaluation processes
  • Ability to lead physician and APP engagement in dyad leadership model
  • Strategic planning expertise for clinical operations and research
  • Commitment to professionalism and behaviors aligned with health system values

Responsibilities

  • Promote excellence in clinical care, research, and education at the hospital
  • Create the vision and strategic plan for hospital clinical activities
  • Serve as advocate for the hospital and promote high standards for clinical care, education, research, financial and operational performance
  • Lead physician and Advanced Practice Provider engagement and alignment
  • Determine best practice models for care delivery and operational improvements
  • Collaborate to lead provider wellbeing, data, quality outcomes, credentialing and privileging
  • Ensure the highest standards for patient safety and clinical quality
  • Partner with Medical Director of Quality to develop and implement annual quality and patient safety plan
