About this role
The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) leads development and implementation of systems and processes ensuring the highest quality of care, patient safety, and evidence-based medicine. Oversees, directs, and supports medical management decisions that maximize patient benefits while pursuing corporate objectives. Provides essential physician leadership for clinical outcomes and quality initiatives.
Conducts regular chart reviews and audits on a spot-check basis as part of ongoing Quality Assurance. Meets with medical staff providers regularly to discuss clinical opportunities for care. Maintains a direct patient care practice in area of expertise.
Develops and maintains collegial relationships with physicians and clinical staff to promote engagement and quality patient care. Advises Administration on clinical strategy development and recommends resolutions to medical and administrative issues. Serves as liaison and organization resource to the physician peer review process.
Attends all Board of Directors meetings and annual strategic planning retreat, plus Quality Assurance and Risk Management Committee meetings. Engages providers in development of patient care policies, protocols, and procedures. Supports ongoing quality initiatives and evidence-based practices.
Requirements
- Valid MD/DO license in the state of Iowa with no pending or previous disciplinary action; board certified or board eligible
- Current DEA license
- A minimum of five years’ healthcare experience
- Experience launching medical programs and dealing with program management
- Experience working with information technology staff to implement and manage practice management and/or electronic health software
- Demonstrated leadership ability, team management, and interpersonal skills
- Excellent analytical and reasoning skills, plus excellent organization skills
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals and regulations; write reports and procedure manuals; effectively present information to groups
