This specialist medical role joins a multidisciplinary team providing evidence-based clinical advice on ABF/Home Affairs staff health matters. It supports health governance and health-related policies and programs. The position handles occupational and environmental health advice for complex, urgent, sensitive or high-profile cases.

Daily responsibilities include delivering clinical advice to facilitate staff health initiatives across the portfolio. The role supports the Chief Medical Officer and Deputy Chief Medical Officer in responding to a broad range of health matters. It ensures evidence-based approaches in operational health contexts.

The Staff Health Clinical Advisory Team operates within the Staff Health Clinical Advice Section of the Clinical Advice and Assurance Branch. This falls under the Chief Medical Officer Division in the Chief Operating Officer Group. The team addresses a range of staff health issues in government settings.

This ongoing permanent position offers full-time or part-time options with flexible arrangements per the Enterprise Agreement. Requirements

  • Fellow of a relevant Australian specialist medical college
  • At least 5 years of experience working in occupational medicine in Australia
  • Previous experience providing occupational health clinical advice in a government agency
  • Experience overseeing complex operational environments
  • Suitably qualified as an occupational health medical practitioner
  • Ability to handle complex, urgent, sensitive or high-profile clinical cases

Responsibilities

  • Provide evidence-based clinical advice to support health governance and health-related policies on staff health matters
  • Deliver occupational and environmental health clinical advice for complex, urgent, sensitive or high-profile cases
  • Support the Chief Medical Officer and Deputy Chief Medical Officer in responding to portfolio health matters
  • Facilitate health-related programs across ABF/Home Affairs staff health issues
  • Contribute to multidisciplinary clinical advisory functions in operational environments
  • Advise on staff health matters requiring specialist occupational medicine input
