About this role

Established in 1951, IOM is the leading UN agency in migration, providing services and advice to governments and migrants. The Regional Medical Officer operates under the Chief Medical Officer, Head of Occupational Health Unit, supporting regional and country offices for staff health and well-being.

This role ensures occupational medical services, case management, insurance oversight, and strategic health planning for staff and eligible dependents. The incumbent reviews and validates medical examination reports, including Entry on Duty assessments, aligning with UN medical standards.

Collaboration occurs with OHU HQ, HR, Regional Directors, Chiefs of Mission, and external providers. Frequent interaction involves UN medical services, insurance administrators, and inter-agency health networks across the region.

Requirements

  • Medical degree with specialization in occupational health
  • Valid medical license to practice
  • Experience in occupational medical services and case management
  • Knowledge of UN medical standards and inter-agency health coordination
  • Ability to oversee medical examinations and reports
  • Skills in insurance oversight and strategic health planning
  • Familiarity with emergency preparedness and policy development
  • Proficiency in collaborating with health providers and networks

Responsibilities

  • Review and validate medical examination reports including Entry on Duty (EOD) assessments
  • Provide occupational medical services to staff and eligible dependents
  • Manage health case management and insurance oversight
  • Support strategic health planning in regional and country offices
  • Collaborate with OHU HQ, HR, Regional Directors, and Chiefs of Mission
  • Interact with UN medical services, insurance administrators, and inter-agency networks
  • Contribute to policy development and emergency preparedness
  • Implement health strategies across the region
