About this role
The Nurse Intern supports patient care under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), assisting with essential care tasks and fostering a therapeutic environment. This role emphasizes hands-on learning, collaboration with the healthcare team, and providing safe, compassionate, and organized care. It enhances the patient experience and contributes to the healing process.
Daily tasks include providing basic patient care within scope of practice, such as vital sign monitoring, hygiene assistance, and patient comfort measures. Performs hourly rounding and purposeful patient interactions to build therapeutic relationships. Ensures timely and accurate completion of all assigned duties.
Works closely with the care team, communicating effectively during handoffs, reporting patient condition changes, and participating in bedside shift reports. Maintains a clean, organized work environment including patient rooms and shared workspaces. Assists with basic equipment maintenance like glucometers and ensures proper storage after use.
Develops clinical skills by asking questions, seeking feedback, and applying evidence-based practices under RN guidance. Documents all tasks and observations clearly and timely per facility policies. Upholds excellent customer service with patients, families, and departments while complying with all standards.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in an accredited Nursing program
- Completion of fundamentals of clinicals in an accredited Nursing program
- 0-1 years of experience in a healthcare setting
- Basic understanding of patient care procedures and medical terminology
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks efficiently
- Attention to detail and organizational skills for accurate documentation and compliance
- CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation issued by American Heart Association (AHA), American Red Cross (ARC), or American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI)
