About this role

UK-Med is a frontline medical aid charity seeking experienced Theatre Nurses with conflict experience to join our register. You will deploy internationally at short notice for 4-12 weeks to provide safe surgical care in crises. Availability for a minimum of 4-6 weeks is essential, with longer preferred.

You will ensure patient safety by maintaining sterile environments, adhering to infection control, and implementing protocols to prevent complications. Provide high-quality perioperative care, collaborating with surgical teams for patient preparation, assisting in procedures, monitoring vital signs, and administering medications.

Be prepared for immediate nursing care in critical incidents, mass casualties, or trauma, assisting in resuscitation and managing life-threatening situations. Work under pressure in humanitarian contexts, demonstrating determination, compassion, and collaboration.

Requirements

  • Previous experience working in humanitarian contexts, particularly conflict zones
  • Ability to travel and work internationally at short notice for a minimum of 4-6 weeks
  • Current nursing license with unconditional membership of a suitable registering organisation
  • Specific qualifications or professional registrations in Nursing Science/Degree
  • Determined, high performing, compassionate, and collaborative
  • Committed to learning and supporting others to learn
  • Language skills an advantage

Responsibilities

  • Ensure patient safety by maintaining a sterile environment, adhering to infection control practices, and implementing safety protocols
  • Provide high-quality perioperative care, collaborating with the surgical team for patient preparation and assisting during procedures
  • Monitor patients' vital signs, administer medications, and facilitate smooth surgical workflow
  • Provide immediate nursing care during critical incidents, mass casualty situations, or trauma cases
  • Assist in resuscitation efforts and manage life-threatening situations to support the surgical team
  • Deliver safe and effective surgical care to individuals affected by crises and emergencies
