The Wound Care registered nurse acts as a resource, role model, and expert to prevent and manage skin breakdown and complex wounds across all hospital floors.
The role involves conducting wound rounds on all floors, providing specialized care, support, and education to patients and staff. This includes assessing wounds, cleaning and dressing them with sterile techniques, and performing debridement as required. Monitoring progress and updating treatment plans ensures evidence-based care promotes optimal healing.
Collaboration with the interdisciplinary care team optimizes patient outcomes, including formulating policies and educational resources on wounds. The nurse participates in committees and serves as a resource for pressure ulcer, wound, and ostomy management. Patient safety is prioritized through ongoing monitoring.

Requirements
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Expertise in preventing and managing skin breakdown and complex wounds
- Knowledge of evidence-based wound care practices to promote optimal healing
- Proficiency in wound assessment, debridement, and sterile dressing techniques
- Experience providing education on wound care, ostomy, and pressure ulcer management
- Ability to formulate policies and educational resources for wound strategies
- BLS certification
- Strong collaboration skills with interdisciplinary care teams
Responsibilities
- Conduct wound rounds across all hospital floors, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to review cases and adjust care plans
- Assess and evaluate patient wounds to determine the appropriate course of treatment
- Clean and dress wounds, ensuring sterile techniques are followed
- Monitor and document patient progress, updating treatment plans as necessary
- Educate patients and their families on wound care best practices and infection prevention
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including physicians and other health-care professionals, to optimize patient care
- Perform debridement and other wound care procedures as required
- Participate and/or chair committees and studies as a resource for pressure ulcer, wound, and ostomy management
