About this role
Scarborough Health Network (SHN) is shaping the future of care across three hospitals and eight satellite sites for one of Canada’s most vibrant and diverse communities. Reporting to the Manager, you will carry out prescribed Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy duties under the direction and supervision of a Physiotherapist and/or Occupational Therapist. SHN hosts North America’s largest nephrology program and serves as the designated cardiac care and spine centre.
In this outpatient role at the Birchmount Site, you will support rehabilitation efforts tailored to patient needs in a dynamic hospital environment. Duties focus on implementing therapist-directed interventions while contributing to interdisciplinary care. The position involves all shifts in a full-time temporary capacity for 12 months.
You will function as an integral component of an interdisciplinary team in a community-affiliated teaching site for the University of Toronto. Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited Physiotherapist/Occupational Therapist Assistant program or equivalent
- Knowledge of anatomy and physiology relating to rehabilitation
- Valid CPR training
- Able to function as an integral component of an interdisciplinary team
- Able to work under minimal supervision accepting responsibility and accountability as assigned
- Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills including skills in patient teaching
- Demonstrated physical fitness to perform the essential duties of the position
- Demonstrated professionalism and reliability
Responsibilities
- Carry out prescribed Physiotherapy duties under the direction and supervision of a Physiotherapist
- Carry out prescribed Occupational Therapy duties under the direction and supervision of an Occupational Therapist
- Assist patients with therapeutic exercises and mobility training in outpatient settings
- Apply rehabilitation techniques using knowledge of anatomy and physiology
- Monitor patient responses during therapy sessions and report to supervising therapists
- Prepare treatment areas and equipment for therapy sessions
- Support patient transfers and positioning for safe rehabilitation activities
