About this role

Develop your career in theatres, attain a Bachelor of Science Degree and become a qualified Operating Department Practitioner, all whilst being paid. Join the theatre department as a trainee ODP and enjoy the support of a dedicated team whilst training. Seeking committed, enthusiastic, compassionate individuals with a passion for theatres for this three-year apprenticeship program.

Work full time for the duration across more than one site with clinical placements in a variety of settings plus academic study at university. Learn all aspects of peri-operative care and become proficient in the anaesthetic, scrub and recovery areas within ODP scope. Undertake study in your own time and complete care certificate within first 3 months if not already done.

On successful completion, register as ODP with HCPC and apply for Band 5 position in Theatre or IR departments. All original certificates presented before interview from Trust and University. New to theatres receive extended period at beginning of training.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above including English Language, Maths and a science or equivalent
  • Provide physical certificates demonstrating entry requirements for university programme
  • Present all original certificates before interview
  • Committed, enthusiastic, compassionate and caring nature

  • Ability to work full time including own study time

Responsibilities

  • Work full time across more than one site for the duration of the program
  • Undertake academic study in own time alongside clinical placements
  • Learn all aspects of peri-operative care
  • Become proficient in anaesthetic, scrub and recovery areas
  • Submit online application to BCU within set timeframe
  • Complete care certificate within first 3 months if not already held
  • Participate in clinical placements in variety of clinical settings
