About this role
Provides direct and indirect patient care for the department. Schedules operative and invasive procedures. Performs all secretarial duties as requested and maintains communication lines for department.
Schedules surgeries as called in by physicians or offices per policy. Organizes and prepares the Surgery Schedule for the following day and delivers to appropriate departments. Delivers Surgery on-call Schedule to switchboard daily.
Interacts professionally with staff, patients, and family. Establishes and maintains effective communication and good working relationship with coworkers. Answers telephone politely and communicates information to appropriate personnel.
Enters patient charges daily and maintains surgery logbook. Computes monthly statistics and verifies inpatients and outpatients for QI. Notifies nurse manager and others of changes in surgery lineup.
Completes annual educational requirements and participates in Surgical Services QI activities. Maintains patient confidentiality and adheres to hospital policies. Represents the organization positively and professionally.
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent preferred
- Understanding of medical terminology
- Interact professionally with staff, patients, and family
- Maintain patient confidentiality and patient’s records at all times
- Complete annual educational requirements
- Meet dress code standards and adhere to policy for Attire in the Operating Room
- Attend monthly staff meetings
- Actively participate in Surgical Services QI activities
Responsibilities
- Schedule surgeries as called in to Department by physicians or physician’s offices, per policy and procedure
- Organize and prepare the Surgery Schedule for the following day and deliver to all appropriate departments daily
- Deliver Surgery on-call Schedule to switchboard
- Enter patient charges to patient accounts daily
- Maintain current surgery logbook daily
- Obtain purchase orders for instruments, implants, etc. from materials management
- Assist in transport of patients to and from the department
- Compute monthly statistics and notify of changes in surgery lineup
