About this role
Exalt Health, an acute rehabilitation hospital, provides intensive rehabilitation programs for patients able to tolerate three hours of intense services daily. It focuses on complex needs such as stroke, spinal cord injury, brain injury, neurological disorders, orthopedic injuries, and multiple traumas. Occupational Therapists help patients regain independence and improve quality of life after illness, injury, or surgery.
Conduct comprehensive evaluations, develop individualized treatment plans, and deliver therapeutic interventions addressing diverse patient needs. Educate patients and families on self-management techniques to support ongoing progress after discharge. Emphasize Activities of Daily Living, functional skills, and cognitive development.
Collaborate with physicians, nurses, social workers, and other rehabilitation professionals to create comprehensive care plans. Work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment serving patients with medically complex conditions. Recommend home modifications and assistive devices for safe transitions home.
Document patient progress and outcomes to measure treatment effectiveness. Stay up-to-date on the latest occupational therapy practices through continuing education. Foster patient-centered care promoting long-term functional improvements.
Requirements
- Current, unencumbered license to practice professional Occupational Therapy in the state where practicing
- Current BLS required via the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program
- 2 years of Inpatient Rehabilitation experience (preferred)
- Strong clinical reasoning and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and team-oriented environment
- Compassionate and patient-centered approach to care
Responsibilities
- Educate patients on Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) including dressing, bathing, grooming, toileting, eating, and mobility
- Support patient development of functional skills such as strengthening, coordination, balance, and endurance
- Support patient development of cognitive skills including memory, attention, problem-solving, and reasoning
- Develop pre-vocational or vocational skills for returning to work or retraining for a new career
- Recommend appropriate home modifications or assistive devices to ensure safe transition home
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, social workers, and other rehab professionals to develop comprehensive care plans
- Document patient progress and outcomes to measure treatment effectiveness
- Educate patients and families on strategies to maintain improved function at home
