About this role
The Registered Nurse (RN) provides high-quality, patient-centered nursing care across family planning, abortion care, recovery room services, on-call nursing, and centralized follow-up services. Care is delivered in accordance with Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts protocols, organizational policies, and American Nurses Association standards. The RN ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations including HIPAA, OSHA, CLIA, Title X, CDC, DEA, and Massachusetts Department of Public Health requirements.
Daily responsibilities include performing patient admissions, assessments, counseling, discharge, and recovery room set-up and clean-up per protocols. The RN administers non-controlled medications, performs venipuncture, point-of-care testing, and inserts/removes IV catheters. Additional tasks cover RN-led family planning visits with injections, medication abortion support, and triage-related nursing.
The RN collaborates closely with health center staff to deliver safe, equitable, inclusive reproductive health care. Serves as a clinical role model and supervising resource for health care assistants, volunteers, and interns. Fosters a respectful, team-based work environment.
Participate in after-hours on-call rotation approximately 2-6 shifts per month. Conduct clinical audits based on health center needs and maintain current knowledge of nursing best practices and regulations. Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
- Current, unrestricted Massachusetts RN license required
- Current CPR certification required
- Clinical experience in sexual and reproductive health preferred
- Commitment to health equity, patient autonomy, and trauma-informed care
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-based clinical environment
- Ability to stand for approximately 95% of the workday, lift up to 30 pounds unassisted, and bend, reach, and stock clinical supplies
Responsibilities
- Perform patient admissions, assessments, counseling, discharge, and recovery room set-up and clean-up in accordance with protocols and standing orders
- Administer and dispense prescribed non-controlled medications per provider orders and standing orders
- Assess and manage expected and unexpected post-procedure outcomes in coordination with providers and Screening RNs
- Perform venipuncture and point-of-care testing per standing orders
- Insert and remove IV catheters
- Provide RN-led family planning visits, including injection-based services
- Support medication abortion care by preparing encounters, providing counseling, and dispensing prescribed medications under standing orders
- Participate in after-hours RN call rotation (approximately 2–6 shifts per month)
