About this role

The Hospital Administrator serves as the PIH lead for Koidu Government Hospital, a 350-bed teaching and referral hospital in rural Kono District. They provide overall leadership, vision, and management of day-to-day operations in close partnership with Ministry of Health-appointed hospital leadership. The role ensures high-quality patient care and represents the hospital with government and external stakeholders.

Day-to-day responsibilities include coordinating execution of the hospital's operations and master plan per the MOH-PIH agreement. The Administrator reports regularly on performance, risks, and opportunities to PIH Sierra Leone leadership and the Hospital Board. They oversee clinical, operational, and administrative functions while managing leadership teams.

This position involves serving on the PIH Sierra Leone Executive Management Team and collaborating within the Hospital Board. It requires working with senior hospital leadership, providing mentorship, and building capacity across the workforce. The role emphasizes fiscal responsibility in partnership with the executive team and hospital finance officer.

The opportunity suits external international applicants with experience in low-resource hospital management. It offers leadership in a Maternal Center of Excellence and progress tracking for hospital infrastructure. Proven integrity, empathy, and collaboration drive success in this executive role.

Requirements

  • Prior experience managing hospital facilities, preferably in a low resource setting
  • Proven track record of leading with integrity and empathy
  • Demonstrated strong collaboration amongst colleagues and other stakeholders
  • Experience providing direction for hospital master plans and infrastructure oversight
  • Ability to ensure high-quality patient care and compliance with national health policies
  • Skills in hospital budgeting, financial management, and fiscal responsibility
  • Experience representing hospitals with government counterparts and external stakeholders
  • For external international applicants

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the execution of the hospital’s day-to-day operations and overall master plan as outlined in the co-management collaborative agreement between MOH and PIH
  • Report regularly to the PIH SL leadership and the Hospital Board on performance, risks, and opportunities
  • Serve as part of the Executive Management Team of PIH SL
  • Ensure compliance with national health policies, laws, and accreditation standards
  • Provide overall supervision of clinical, operational, and administrative functions and directly manage the leadership teams for these functions
  • Provide oversight of the overall KGH master plan, ensuring progress is centrally tracked regarding hospital infrastructure
  • Coordinate the development of the hospital annual budget, monitor financial performance, and ensure fiscal responsibility
  • Provide mentorship and support for the senior hospital leadership team and broader workforce, providing capacity building
