About this role
The Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) performs routine tests on blood, tissues, and other body specimens. Provides physicians with quality results using a variety of clinical laboratory equipment. Ensures total understanding of patient safety and laboratory techniques for complete patient safety and anonymity.
Performs analytical tests on biological specimens in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner per documented procedures. Determines acceptability of specimens through visual inspections or recognizing abnormal results. Takes appropriate action according to protocols when factors affect measurements and results.
Performs quality control for all testing and meets established ranges before releasing patient results. Maintains a safe and efficient work environment by performing equipment checks, cleaning work areas, monitoring temperatures per hospital policies, and troubleshooting equipment. Works in Blood Bank at St. Francis Downtown.

Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Science, Biomedical Science, Biology or Biochemistry through a CLIA approved program
- MLS Medical Lab Scientist Certification or eligible by a nationally recognized certification agency (preferably ASCP)
- Externship program completed (preferred)
- Ability to provide quality, error-free work in a fast-paced environment
- Engage with staff and patients in a professional manner
Responsibilities
