About this role
Serves as Operations Director for the Anatomic Pathology division in the Department of Pathology. Utilizes management, customer service, and technical skills to oversee operations and laboratory managers for Gross Room labs, Tissue Procurement Services, Histology lab, IHC lab, and others. Ensures high-quality clinical services delivery.
Continually evaluates, develops, and implements quality improvements for anatomic pathology clinical services. Ensures evaluation, production, completion, and accuracy of high-quality technical methods and processes in a timely fashion. Develops procedures overseeing clinical data input into the Laboratory Information System (Beaker).
Works with Anatomic Pathology Quality Director to maintain the pathology quality plan and with Division Directors for high-quality methods and operations. Interacts with pathologists, surgeons, clinicians, laboratory managers, and staff to provide quality services and technical assistance. Oversees labs like Biomarker Reference Lab, Renal Pathology, Autopsy/Morgue, and Cytology.
Ensures CAP and New York State Department of Health inspection readiness for Anatomic Pathology. Responsible for assessing and implementing new changes in technology, laboratory design, and equipment. Plans new approaches to improve service quality across Pathology Support Services.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology from accredited institution
- Or Associate degree in laboratory science or medical laboratory technology AND Bachelor's degree in chemical or biological science
- 7 years of relevant experience
- ASCP certification required within 1 year of hire
- Experience overseeing anatomic pathology labs including histology, cytology, and immunohistochemistry
- Knowledge of CAP accreditation and NYSDOH requirements
- Managerial experience in clinical laboratory services
- Skills in laboratory information systems like Beaker

- Ensure evaluation, production, completion, and accuracy of high quality technical methods and processes
- Develop and maintain procedures for input of clinical data into the Laboratory Information System (Beaker)
- Collaborate with Anatomic Pathology Quality Director to maintain pathology quality plan
- Interact with pathologists, surgeons, clinicians, laboratory managers, and staff for quality services
- Ensure CAP and NYSDOH inspection readiness and staff compliance with testing, billing, and reporting
