About this role
The University of Chicago's Department of Pathology seeks an academic clinical pathologist and informatician to join its faculty at any rank. The appointee will be based on the Hyde Park campus but may cover off-site outpatient laboratories. Clinical responsibilities include work under the direct supervision of the Vice Chair, Clinical Pathology.
We seek a results-driven clinical informaticist to evaluate clinical, laboratory, and pathologic data to improve departmental operations. This role targets laboratory and pathology test utilization improvements and focuses departmental and interdepartmental quality initiatives. Duties involve gathering and evaluating operational and testing data to develop effective departmental information dashboards.
The appointee will enable the department to collaborate on targeted healthcare service improvements through data. Other duties may include teaching and supervision of trainees and students, plus scholarly activity. Work occurs in a dynamic academic environment with clinical pathology oversight.
Possibilities include developing machine learning and predictive analytics with this data to optimize health services and quality patient care. Academic rank, track, and compensation depend upon qualifications. The position supports ongoing advancements in clinical informatics.
Requirements
- Medical doctorate or equivalent
- Hold or be eligible for a medical license in the State of Illinois and the State of Indiana
- Board certification in AP/CP or CP only (with or without an additional subspecialty) through the American Board of Pathology
- Ability to carry and maintain CLIA licensure
- Board certified or eligible in clinical informatics preferred
- Substantial data science experience preferred
Responsibilities
- Analyze and interpret data to identify areas that need improvement
- Enhance health information systems that support the collection, sharing, standardization, and integration of departmental healthcare data
- Collaborate on improving standards of care, policies, and procedures
- Train departmental staff on the use of developed data analytics and displays
- Provide technical support, optimize security, and maintain departmental databases
- Ensure compliance in healthcare information management regulations
- Document processes, maintain records, and prepare reports
- Develop effective departmental information dashboards
