About this role

Provides clerical and patient care support, focusing on specimen collection and processing at Nationwide Children's Hospital. Performs patient registration, specimen accessioning, collections including venipuncture, capillary, sweat chloride, and waived laboratory testing. Works 2nd shift from 3PM-11:30PM with rotating weekends, holidays, and on-call duties.

Completes technical tasks like specimen accessioning, preparation, processing, delivery, and storage, including phlebotomy. Handles clerical tasks per testing protocols, maintains equipment through quality control and preventive maintenance. Performs waived testing and documents patient reports, quality control, and troubleshooting.

Upholds laws and regulations related to laboratory operations while documenting daily, weekly, and monthly tasks. Delivers service excellence by adapting communication to cultural differences, researching client concerns, and troubleshooting efficiently. Engages in an inclusive atmosphere with mutual respect.

Provides useful feedback for individual improvement and participates in continuing education programs. Supports laboratory operations in a dynamic environment with interruptions and changing circumstances. Ensures quality patient care through attention to detail and multitasking.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent, required
  • Technical skills, organizational skills, ability to multitask, attention to detail, and computer experience required
  • Interpersonal relationship skills to collaborate with internal and external customers
  • Effective in both written and oral communications
  • Efficient in collaborative and independent work
  • American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification, preferred
  • CPR certification, preferred
  • One-year of clinical laboratory/medical experience and office experience, preferred

Responsibilities

  • Completes technical tasks such as specimen accessioning, specimen preparation, processing, delivery and storage, including phlebotomy and other specimen collection
  • Performs clerical tasks and specimen accessioning in accordance with testing protocols and criteria
  • Performs waived laboratory testing, documents patient reports, quality control, maintenance, and troubleshooting
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and upholds applicable laws and regulations related to position and laboratory operations
  • Documents daily, weekly, and monthly tasks on assigned work area task lists
  • Delivers service excellence and quality patient care through adjusting communication styles and addressing client concerns
  • Provides feedback that is useful and assists in individual improvement
